VERB TO BE

The verb to be is the most important verb in the English language. Be is an irregular verb with several forms. We use be as a main verb and an auxiliary verb. Be as a main verb has a number of meanings. We use the verb to be: To talk about permanent or temporary qualities or states. Example: The food is so good in Italy. To talk about our nationality and our identity within groups or clubs. Example: I am Spaniard. They are Real Madrid fans. To talk about a person’s job or profession. Note the use of a with singular names of jobs and professions. Example: My sister is a vet. My brothers are firefighters. To talk about age. Example: How old are you? I am 39 years old. To talk how people are related (relationships). Example: Sarah is my cousin. Who is your father? To refer to where people, places and things are situated. Example: I am at home.
